Using CCF (MCP-4017) | |
| Abstract |
The Custom Connect Facility (CCF) provides a mechanism to connect
standard networking protocols to the MCP Transaction Server, better
known as COMS. CCF makes it extremely easy to create COMS-based server
applications that can communicate with TCP/IP sockets, named pipes,
and web browsers.
The speaker will present an overview of the current implementation of CCF, including the built-in interfaces provided by Unisys, configuration and administration of custom interfaces, and a discussion of issues facing the COMS programmer for CCF interfaces. This presentation will concentrate on using CCF with TCP/IP ports, but will also include a brief mention of named pipe and web browser interfaces. |

The Myth of Application Modernization (MCP-4018) | |
| Abstract |
Over the past ten years a great deal of marketing steam and no small
amount of software toolsmithing have been devoted to the prospect of
modernizing legacy mainframe applications. What this usually involves
is an effort to put a more modern and palatable user interface onto an
application originally implemented for "green screen" terminal
devices. Is anyone really doing this? If so, can we expect the result
be successful? And if that, is it really worth all the trouble?
The speaker will discuss the issues involved with modernizing legacy applications, the potential benefits and pitfalls involved in such an effort, and how he believes modernization projects should be evaluated and pursued. |
